I recently acquired a Rossi Model 92 in .44 mag and am trying to date it. I tried the online tool and it came back with not found on the serial number. The serial number is M043XXX. It has a 16' barrel and no safety (nor does it appear that there ever even was a safety on it). It has a U-shape piece of steel on the left side of the receiver that I suspect was for a saddle ring (but no ring currently is on it). It has the large lever loop also. I know the large lever loop is just a Hollywood invention, but as someone with larger hands, I appreciate it.
On the top of the tang, it says:
AMADEO ROSSI SA.-MADE IN BRAZIL
On the bottom of the tang, it says:
MODEL 92 SRC
INTERARMS
ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA
- Pick a model from the left hand menu.
- I am looking at a Rossi.38 special, black metal finish with walnut or rosewood grips. In unfired condition. Owner says it may be from the early 30s or 40s. Serial Number located on the bottom of the grips (the strip of metal separating the two grips) is clearly marked '234519'. Any idea if this is a vintage revolver?

Rossi is made at the same factory as Taurus-down in South America. Summer scent korean drama. Power geez 2016. My experience and I have heard-it`s a crap shoot when getting one-one may be a great shooter, the next may be a turd. I would definetly have it checked for timing, lock-up and overall condition before shooting it. First generation mac.

Amadeo Rossi Serial Number
I recently posted this in the Rossi Revolvers section of the Taurus Firearms Forum. You can still hear the crickets chirping in the deafening silence from those experts. Here goes on this forum.
M88 or M885???
Can anyone explain to me the difference between a Rossi M88 and M885? I have seen references to both models and I cannot determine any clear difference between the model numbers. In fact, it seems to me that both model numbers are used almost interchangeably in the various online forums and auction sites. A noticible difference is the presence or absence of a shrouded ejector rod, although the model numbers seem to be applied by many with no regard to shrouded ejector rod.
Earlier this year, I purchased a nice used Rossi 5-shot stainless revolver, 2-inch barrel, chambered in .38 Special. The paperwork on the sale (local pawn shop, FFL) identified the revolver as a 'M88.'
The frame is stamped under the crane pivot with both 'M88' and 'M885,' with the 'M885' in slightly larger font. The crane is stamped '6513,' which I believe is a manufacturing number of some kind, perhaps used to keep major components together during assembly. The '6513' is also stamped on the frame under the stocks, on the inside of the lockplate, on the rear of the cylinder (in addition to the 'I'), and is also marked in pencil on both the left and right wooden stocks. The 6513 number is not contained in the serial number in any variation. The ejector rod is recessed in a full lug under the barrel. The revolver is an Interarms-Alexandria, VA model (pre-Taurus), and manufacture date is unknown.
The Tyler T-Grip is the only modification.
